Yes, we learned in school about the Blitz, about the devastation wrought on London, about women and children shipped into the countryside for their protection. I loved getting a flavour of how they coped in the war, and I thought that a lot of what they said is true of today also (especially about the amount of food imports that we rely on - back then it was 70% and I don't expect it's much less now - a sobering thought when you realise how close to war we are most of time). 4.8 out of 5 stars 81 ratings. Excellent series that features some of our family history. The series takes you through the seasons, and gives you amazing first hand look as to how it was, following tight regulations, food rationing, farming restrictions and land cultivation.

While I enjoyed the series there were a few condition issues with the episodes. Territories, Canada, and Bermuda. The sacrifices on every corner of the British Isles, to keep people alive and fed and to keep the country ticking and going and fighting - this is something that's important to remember and to learn about.

I've seen this on TV a couple of times and just love it and the whole series! I have really enjoyed watching this series, but I got to the stage that if I heard the word expert one more time, I would flip!

The region 2 version plays nicely on my old laptop (once I changed the preference) that I've wired to a larger TV monitor. Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 20, 2014. Revisiting all three I'm seriously impressed by the trouble taken to really show what life was like in each of these three settings, and by the very pleasant and balanced way the facts are mixed in with nostalgic recreation without one ever overwhelming the other.

Unable to add item to List. You get a real sense of how bad things were for the British people due to loss of food imports due to U boats sinking supply ships. This series, however, I found to be not as good as the other ones by these presenters (Tales from the Green Valley, Victorian Farm, Edwardian Farm). Against overwhelming odds they held on until the war was won.
